Inspired by the graceful row of trees framing the two-storey school building with basement during our very first site visit, Eureka transformed this kindergarten into a dynamic, ever-changing backdrop for learning, play and exploration. By opening up the original pitched roof to reveal its full height and introducing three whimsical tree structures inside, we created a nurturing landscape where curiosity can truly flourish. Curved planes soften the rectilinear architecture, inviting natural light to dance through the space, gently dividing areas and offering playful platforms for action and discovery. It is a world designed for meaningful encounters and endless imagination.
The design inserted three monumental curved tree structures that rise through all floors. These sculptural forms function as vertical playscapes, offering climbing routes, hidden nooks and treehouse platforms while flooding the entire interior with abundant natural light and creating a sense of wonder. The design turns architecture itself into a playful learning tool. Fluid organic forms soften the original rigid structure, encouraging free movement, exploration and child-led discovery. Through radical adaptive reuse — rather than new construction — the project minimises waste, maximises sustainability and dramatically improves spatial quality. A calm neutral palette serves as a serene backdrop that highlights children’s creativity and supports holistic development.
Three Whimsical Trees is a child-empowering play environment where every element invites young learners to lead their own “play, explore, learn” journeys in a nurturing, nature-immersed world.
